Moon Jar

Moon Jars were made originally in Korea and are a representation of the Moon.

They are traditionally made in two parts joining two hemispherical shapes together, which is how I have made this piece. I believe they were originally made to store grains of rice or wine.

Interestingly most Moon Jars have the shape of a waning moon, not a full moon so it’s appearance may look slightly distorted and irregular which is how I like them. Finding the beauty in the asymmetrical as oppose to the symmetrical.

Moon Jars are still proving to be very popular to this day.

(Note: This piece does not hold water)

Measurements approx: H18cm X W20cm

Care instructions: Please take care when handling this product. The blisters can occasionally burst, this is the effect of the glaze. If this happens, all it needs is a little light sanding by hand to remove any sharp edges and a rinse with water.
